The Seattle Public Library invites the public to come face-to-face with the First Folio at the downtown Seattle Central Library March 21 through April 17, 2016. Considered one of the most important books ever published, the First Folio is the first and most comprehensive collection of the plays of William Shakespeare. The First Folio was published in 1623, seven years after Shakespeare's death. Without it, 18 of those plays would likely have been lost to time, including Julius Caesar, Macbeth, As You Like It and The Taming of the Shrew. First Folio! The Book That Gave Us Shakespeare, on tour from the Folger Shakespeare Library, is a national traveling exhibit organized by the Folger Shakespeare Library in Washington, D.C. and commemorates the 400th anniversary of Shakespeare's death. The Library is partnering with several local organizations to provide related Shakespeare programming, free to the public, including a film series, scholar lectures, performances and more. For a list of those events, please visit our First Folio calendar. First Folio! The Book That Gave Us Shakespeare, on tour from the Folger Shakespeare Library, is made possible in part by a major grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities: Exploring the Human Endeavor, and by the support of Google.org, Vinton and Sigrid Cerf and other generous donors. The tour and is produced in association with the American Library Association and the Cincinnati Museum Center. Local support comes from Paccar, Gary Kunis, Union Bank, The Seattle Times and The Seattle Public Library Foundation. Learn more at spl.org/shakespeare.
